The design for the new Bareggio Multipurpose Center views the regeneration of the former paper mill as an opportunity to build a new civic and cultural hub. The building is conceived as an open, flexible, and inclusive organism, capable of connecting the square, the park, and the urban fabric through permeable spaces and a ground floor that remains active throughout the day. The site's industrial heritage is reinterpreted through a compact volume with pitched roofs, integrated with photovoltaic panels and skylights. The auditorium, literary café, and spaces for study, coworking, reading, and events are organized according to a simple and adaptable layout. Sustainability, durability, and economic feasibility drive the construction choices: a mixed steel-timber structure, prefabricated components, and robust, low-maintenance materials. The Center is designed to evolve over time, accommodating new uses and potential expansions.
